General Tips that make you look good!

Arrive Early - if you're late you may have less time in front of the camera!

Clothing - avoid stripes and plaids, solid colors photograph better. Bring more than one outfit and make them all different colors! Different styles are a good idea too - casual and dressy. Bring at least 2 outfits Mom will like and then some for yourself - be wild and creative! Uniforms for band, sports, et are a good  idea too, especially if your planning on a collage or montage item.   Make sure your clothes fit, are clean and pressed. If you can change fast then bring extra outfits! Come dressed in your first outfit - but remember that with indoor/outdoor sessions we start outdoors.

For WOW style light, bright and pastels are better than dark colors. For Extreme B&W dark colors work best.

Hair - Avoid changing your hair style or cutting your hair right before your session. You can change your hairstyle during your session, but we don't take a time-out for it.

Jewelry - keep it simple and low key. The subject of the photograph is YOU, and too much or too big jewelry will be distracting.

Props - Bring them! Sports equipment, hobby stuff, cars, pets, friends, hats - bring them!

Glasses - if you normally wear them then that's fine. Certain styles of photography may cause glare but I can retouch that if needed. If you're truly concerned stop and see your eye-guy and borrow some empty frames!

Tanning - try not to be too tanned, and certainly not sunburned! You'll look better the more natural your skin tone is.

Tattoos/Scars/Braces - they are part of you, but I can soften or remove them if you'd like. There may be an additional charge for retouching, but we'll talk more about that when we're ready to shoot. Some poses and styles are better than others at hiding certain features.

Blemishes and acne - don't let a minor breakout freak you you! This type of retouching is done at no charge - it's my job to make you look good, and I will!

Pets - housebroken pets are welcome! It's a real good idea to bring a friend to hold the pet when he's not in the picture, and bring some of his favorite treats too.

Weather and Outdoors - We can't predict the weather so let's not try! If it's too rainy we'll reschedule. Cloudy days are best actually, so we don't want too much sun either!

Special Concerns for Girls

Clothing styles - wear clothes that flatter you - baggy and bulky can make you look bigger,  sleeveless tops can make your arms look bigger than they are, sequins can reflect lighting badly - that type of thing. Wear what you want, but a variety of styles is best, and make sure mom approves - if she gets what she wants you're more likely to get what you want!

Outdoor sessions - most outdoor locations lack a place to change. Bradys Run park is an exception, but I often shoot at the parks in Beaver, Flag Plaza in Rochester, Big Rock Park in New Brighton and you may have to change in your car - often layered outfits are a good choice as you can add or drop a piece for a different look. If you want a pose in a creek that's fine, but bring extra clothes and a towel.

Nails - neutral and sedate colors work best and go with more outfits. Often casual shots are done barefoot so watch those toes! Bright Pink will distract from the real beauty in the photo - you! Also, make sure your nails are in good repair - no chips or runs as that'll show in some poses.

Make-up - Go ahead and wear some, but not too heavy! If you want more I can enhance is a bit in editing, but it's harder to tone it down!.

Special Concerns for guys

Clothing - Remember, give mom what she wants and you're more likely to get what you want!
Shoes - bring ones appropriate for the outfit. Dockers and sandals photograph well, bright colored and white sneakers do not. Bring a dark T-shirt to wear under dark shirts - a white T-shirt will stand out and not look so good.

Shaving - by all means be clean shaven! Retouching stubble is difficult and does not look as good as shaving does!

Hair - if you're going to get a haircut get it a week or two before your session so it has time to grow in and look more natural.
